When I first created Goodbye Anxious, my heart was to help people overcome everyday anxieties. One of the most common daily disturbances of our peace is social anxiety. In this article, I want to give you some helpful tips to take one step at a time to overcome your anxiousness in social situations.

Here are my 5 Tips to help you learn how to deal with social anxiety!

Tips for Social Anxiety.

Social Anxiety

Deal with social anxiety by

facing your fears

When we're scared, it's natural to want to avoid anything that might trigger anxiety. But by doing so, we only make our fears stronger. That's why we must confront them head-on, even if it's uncomfortable.

For me, going on camera is a perfect example of this. It actually gives me social anxiety! I feel like everyone is watching and judging me. But I've learned to remind myself of Joyce Meyer's quote, "Do it afraid!" Right before I hit the record button, I tell myself I can do hard things and "Do it, afraid!" This helps me find the courage to start talking. Although the fear remains, it becomes easier to handle as I persevere.

We can gain confidence and overcome social anxiety by taking baby steps and gradually pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones.

Remember, confronting our fears with action is the first step to conquering them.

Social anxiety tips

be present with your emotions

As someone who has dealt with social anxiety, I've learned that being present is crucial when managing anxious thoughts and feelings. By simply experiencing your emotions without judgment and observing your thoughts, you can learn to manage social anxiety and minimize its impact on your life.

One way I practice being present is by expressing my feelings, whether it's to God, friends, or my spouse. This helps me manage those emotions rather than suppressing them and acting on them later. Being present doesn't mean you can't step away and take a breath of fresh air. It means you don't deny and amplify your feelings within your heart and mind. I've found that fear loses its power over you when it's exposed. Sitting with overwhelming feelings secretly can cause panic and hopelessness to take hold.

Focusing on the present moment and facing your fears with courage is one of the most powerful things you can do to conquer social anxiety.

taking care of your body

Taking care of your physical health is crucial in overcoming anxiety. Engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation, and prioritize exercise, healthy eating, and regular sleep.

For me, taking care of my physical health has caused a dramatic change in my mental health! After several months of changing the way I ate as part of my health journey to lose weight, I found that my mental health was better. I had fewer panic attacks, less brain fog, more clarity, and much more confidence in social situations.

It's important to note that statistics have shown that diets high in sugar and processed foods can lead to increased anxiety and depression levels.

By practicing self-care and adopting a healthy lifestyle, you can improve your mood and reduce anxiety levels. Don't forget that with self-care and the right mindset, you can overcome anxiety and conquer your fears.

seek professional help

If you're struggling with social anxiety, it's essential to know that seeking professional help is a valid option. With the right resources and support, healing from social anxiety is possible. I have found that talking out everyday pressures with an unbiased source, like a therapist, can bring about great healing.

Studies have shown that therapy is an effective form of treatment for social anxiety, with up to 85% of individuals experiencing significant improvement.

A therapist can help you identify the root causes of your stress and provide practical coping strategies.

They can also assist you in building a supportive network of people who can help you navigate challenging situations. Sometimes this battle can feel lonely, but you are far from alone in this journey!

Praying to god for guidance

Prayer can have a positive effect on your mental health. Research has shown that people who pray regularly experience less anxiety and depression than those who do not.

Personally, my connection with God has been instrumental in helping me to overcome my fears related to social situations.

I want to encourage you to pray for strength and guidance and to keep in mind Philippians 4:6: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

Remember to acknowledge your progress, be kind to yourself, and allow God's love to shower over you as He gives you peace that surpasses all understanding!

Dealing with social anxiety can be a complicated and overwhelming experience. However, with the right mindset and tools, it is possible to overcome this condition and lead a fulfilling life.

Take things one step at a time, confront your fears head-on, be present, take care of your physical health, seek professional help if needed, and pray for strength and guidance. With determination, courage, and faith, you can overcome your fear and lead a life full of joy and purpose.
