A KIND PERSON IS THOUGHTFUL

If someone is labeled a kind person, they are generally considerate and thoughtful. It's not just a quality but in the definition of kindness itself!

Over the years, there has been a shift to becoming more self-focused, self-driven, self-sufficient, self-motivated and making sure we get self-care. While I mostly agree with the idea of being self-driven in these areas (and have written an article about being self-focused), there is one negative... too much SELF can cause us to become selfish!

A kind person isn't selfish. They are constantly thinking of making others feel loved and cared for. This may come in the form of gifts, thoughtful texts, dinner dates, and even just undivided attention with good listening ears for a friend who deeply needs to vent.

Often people with strong personalities (me for sure, LOL) tend to reject the idea of being TOO thoughtful because it means kindness can be mistaken for weakness. Still, genuinely kind people are so thoughtful they aren't worried about being taken advantage of because they are also confident in who they are as a person.

FORGIVING

Most people can forgive, but genuinely kind people seem to have extra grace in this area. Though often kindness can be mistaken for frailty, kind people do not worry about how their kindness could be interpreted. They are who they are, and they are comfortable and confident in their own skin. An unmistakable characteristic they possess is their ability to forgive without harboring unforgiveness. This is in combination with them also not losing their capacity to see their worth.

Kind people do not leave feelings lingering; they genuinely desire what's best for themselves and others. As you will see in further points, kind people are honest and sincere, which means their forgiveness is not an act of compliance, but an act of genuine love, even if that means moving on from the relationship or friendship.

KIND People are POSITIVE + ENCOURAGING

People who possess deep kindness are primarily positive and always encouraging. You could have 15 people in a room having a bad day, and you will know which one of them is genuinely kind because of their outlook on life.

Most kind people are optimists, and they see the glass as always half full! You will notice that they always look on the bright side of things, trying to bring sunshine to a dark day.

Kind people give life to those around them. They always seem to have grateful hearts and can see an upside to any challenge. One of the most encouraging and motivating factors for those desiring kindness in their lives is its impact on those around them. Anyone can go with the negative flow of things because things are always going wrong in life, but it takes someone special to see diamonds in the dirt!

HONEST + SINCERE

Perhaps the most excellent qualities of a kind person from my perspective are honesty and sincerity. A kind person doesn't seek their wellbeing over the truth. They don't desire to coddle your emotions by lacking in sincerity.

A kind person isn't brutally honest; they are thoughtfully truthful. Being genuinely kind means loving people enough to tell them how you feel or what you are thinking. However, kind people aren't rude with their truths. Often, they are reserved and hold back their harshness. This doesn't mean that they never have intense feelings. It just means that they know what to do with them.

Here are some articles about honesty and sincerity to help you on your kindness journey!

I recently watched a youtube video where the YouTuber was doing a social experiment and standing out in front of a mall with a sign that said: "anything helps." The experiment was to see how many people would stop and lend a hand, give some money, or even offer prayer. It was SHOCKING to see how many people didn't even offer an encouraging word. Almost all of them were too busy with their own lives and casually scrolling on their phones.

When I think of kind people, I always think about the type of people who would stop for someone hurting. They can't pass someone hurting without feelings of empathy and compassion. Several people in that experiment stopped and gave money, and one of them even offered prayer. One of the kindest acts in life is sitting with someone and empathizing with them. However, a kind person doesn't often stop at empathy; they act.
